Welcome to my personal Blog! I come from a Military family.
My Grandfather Clement Anthony Melvin T.D. was a Major with RASC Now REME and Transport Core. My Father was a Sargent in REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) Attached to 3rd Royal Horse Artillery, 25 F (Field) Regiment and 39 H (Heavy) Regiment as a Gun Fitter. My Mother also Served with WRAC (Women’s Royal Army Core) Attached to RA (Royal Artillery) Working in P&EE (Proof and Experimental Establishment). Her role was Experimental Assistant in Gunnery.
It was because of this background that led my father to be posted to Paderborn in the then West Germany where I was born and lived on Barker Barracks until 1986.
My parents Divorced in May ’86 and as a result ended up moving up to Cheshire where we are still living now.
I think that being around the Army from being young has given me a massive interest in Military.
I play Trombone, although I developed a perforated Ear Drum which has temporarily stopped me playing. I am still keeping “in the loop” though and hope to go back to playing live very soon.
During the time I played I performed Classical, Jazz, Soul and R&B. A few years ago I was selected to play at the “South Africa Freedom Day Concert” Held in Trafalgar Square where I was part of a Collaboration between UK and South Africa which involved 20 people from Johannesburg and Petersburg and 20 of us from the all over the UK.
We performed with Billy Ocean and did our own set and afterwards we as a group were summoned to meet Nelson Mandela in South Africa House (Republic of South Africa High Commission). On the bill at the concert included REM, The Corrs, Dave Stewart, Baba Maal, Lady Smith Black Mombasa to name a few!
I studied a music Course At LIPA (Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts) during this time, I was lucky to meet Sir Paul McCartney, lead patron of the the University on graduation.
Now I work in Countryside Conservation with BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers) I adore the outdoors and the elements, the team work and the banter with the people in the company, contrary to belief you won’t find any of us on protests living in trees.
The side of BTCV I am involved in is 100% practical and through this blog I hope to share with you some of our work and projects we undertake.
I am very interested in science and history – love nothing more than discovering new things!
I hope you enjoy reading!
